Need to know anything about travelling
in Africa? Give us a call or drop us an e-mail to make sure
your trip is as smooth as you'd like it to be.
Did you know that Diners Club South Africa control and market
Diners Club activities in the following African countries:
ANGOLA, BOTSWANA, COMORES, ERITREA, ETHIOPIA, KENYA, LESOTHO,
MALAWI, MOZAMBIQUE, NAMIBIA, SEYCHELLES, SWAZILAND, TANZANIA,
UGANDA, ZAMBIA & ZIMBABWE as well as SOUTH AFRICA.
If you require information on where your card is accepted in
any of these countries then simply Customer Contact Centre
on 0860-DINERS (346377) or e-mail
our Help Line.
For your convenience in our Johannesburg reception in Auckland
Park (35 Symons Road) there is an information stand containing
details of all our merchants in these countries.
When in Africa in the few cases when your card is not accepted
we would appreciate you informing us of this fact so that our
representative can request the establishment to accept in future.
Before embarking on your African journey it is much better
to make advance bookings at your hotel and to inform them that
you will be paying with your Diners Club card.
USEFUL TRAVELLING TIPS:
When travelling in Africa for the first time
some health precautions have to be adhered to. For countries
at the equator – i.e. Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania & Ethiopia
a yellow fever injection is necessary.
It’s also advisable to have the following injections if you are intending
being a frequent traveller into Africa.
Cholera
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Meningitis
Never use water for drinking from the tap in
any hotel (not even at 5-star hotels!) Always purchase safe
bottled water.
It’s even advisable to rinse your mouth after brushing
your teeth with bottled water not from the hotel tap.
Avoid the following foodstuffs – especially if they are
beautifully presented in a buffet-style lunch. Eating food
that has been standing for a long time in a hot climate is
just asking for trouble.
Salad, ice-cream, fruit-salad, mayonnaise, anything that has
been kept warm for any long periods.
Someone once said “if you can’t peel it – then
don’t eat it” – sounds funny but I can assure
you it’s very true.
Ensure that you have some small denominations of US$ from one
dollar upwards for tipping purposes. (Your taxi driver will
not be accepting your Diners Club card!)
Once you have been on an African trip keep your small change
of local currency for your next trip – it will come in
very handy for porters tips at the airport or hotel (works
wonders) Get a little phrase book of the local language even
if you can only say Hello, Goodbye & Thank you in Swahili
this will be greatly appreciated.
Swahili : Hello = Jambo, Goodbye – Kwaheri & Thank
you – Asante Sana
