Merchant Authorisations |
All Diners Club transactions must be authorised, regardless
of the transaction amount. POS
• If you process transactions electronically, once
you swipe the card, your POS device will automatically obtain
authorisation and the authorisation number will be reflected
on the transaction slip. Manual
• In the event of you POS device not being able to process
a transaction, manual transactions allow you to process a
card transaction without swiping the card.
• This function should be used with caution and our
authorization centre should be contacted prior to processing
all manual transactons
• In the event that you are processing a manual transaction,
our authorisation centre should be contacted directly.
Our authorisation centre is available 24 x 7 x 365 for your
convenience on 011 358 8500.
Please have the following details handy when calling
for an authorisation: • Diners Club merchant
number • Card number • Expiry date
• CVV number (3 digits on the back of the card) • Amount |

Problems with authorisations and how to solve them. |
Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Terminals. |
| Diners Club cards can be processed through any EDC terminal
at no extra charge. If you experience any problems, we will
be happy to offer assistance. It may be necessary, however,
to refer certain problems to your bank. |
Troubleshooting |
| Below is a summary of messages that could appear on your
EDC screen: |

- The EDC lines are down;
- The amount entered exceeds the floor limit;
- A security check has been requested.

Solution:
Phone our Customer Contact Centre on +27

available 24/7 for an authorisation code. Do a manual override
using your supervisory PIN. If the EDC does not accept the
manual override, process the charge manually on a zip zap
machine and fax the billing form to +27

Service not allowed |
Reason:
- The EDC terminal is not programmed to accept Diners
Club cards.
Solution:
Process manually as above after calling for an authorisation
number. Call our Customer Contact Centre on +27

to have your EDC terminal programmed to accept Diners Club
cards |
Invalid amount |
Reason:
- A negative amount has been entered.
Solution:
Cancel the transaction and enter the correct amount. |
Card expired |
Reason:
- The member is using an out-of-date card.
Solution:
The member should contact Diners Club. (Do not override the
date field) |
Not approved |
Reason:
- The transaction has been declined owing to the members
account status, possibly due to fraud or the member has
exceeded the spend parameter of his account.
Solution:
Call Diners Club Customer Contact Centre on 0860-DINERS
(346377) or +27 11 358 8406. |
Declined |
Reason:
- Due to the reasons above, the transaction has been declined
by Diners Club.
Solution:
The member should contact Diners Club. |
Referred |
Reason:
- The member is spending out of the usual behavioural
spending pattern, a security check needs to be done.
Solution:
Call the Diners Club Customer Contact Centre on

Changing EDC terminals |
| If your establishment changes EDC terminal providers (E.g.
change of bank) please advise us immediately, to ensure that
your new EDC terminal is linked to your Diners Club establishment
profile. |
Cancellation of billings and issuing credit refunds |
| If a Diners Club cardholder returns goods to you, his/her
Diners Club account needs to be credited. Please do NOT refund
cash. For electronic refunds, refer to your EDC manual. For
manual refunds (if the EDC terminal is off-line), please
fax the details for the refund to +27 11 358 8639 and
we will refund the member’s card. |
